A round solitaire building in the form of a rotunda was to be situated in the inner courtyard, set apart from the old building by a glass-ceilinged link.  It was considered important to create a contrasting sphere in terms of both form and material between the historic and modern buildings.  For this reason a circular structure was proposed, in particular in view of its urban appearance in association with the listed baroque figuration.  Architectural considerations and circumstances in terms of urban development dictated that a glass roof would be appropriate, to accentuate the lightness and succinctness of the new building.

From the concept of the round solitaire building in the inner courtyard, a glass-ceilinged foyer zone was elaborated in the distance zones towards from the existing historic fabric, which  through the counterpart juxtaposition of the old and new buildings  is given equal validity and individuality to the open space which had to be surrendered.

The intended transparency between the old and new buildings was meant to create a sensory link between the old building, which represents part of the company’s history, and the continuously developing technology in the Network Management Centre ('Netz Management Centrum'), which is supposed to represent an element of the future.

Two distinct areas were to be created:

-Ground floorCustomer centre
-Upper floorNetwork Management Centre

The client’s marketing concept put a halt to the project after the old fabric had been gutted, so as not to compromise the solution as a whole.  As a result, the new INMC was constructed at the telecommunications tower (cf. also INMC), with the deadlines for completion remaining unchanged.
