Grammar school, Salzhausen
Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality.
(Denis Gaultier)
The new Salzhausen grammar school building is to take the form of an ‘H’ with a north-south orientation.
This solution has been determined upon the following considerations:
A)
All rooms to be illuminated mainly from the east and west. Avoidance and/or reduction of illumination from the north and south.
B)
Creation of clearly defined functional areas, which can be accessed directly from the central axis without disruption, namely:
- administration
- forum with music department
- art department
- general teaching area
C)
Potential for extension with a minimum of complications and disturbance
D)
Creation of clearly defined external spaces (playground, entrance yard)
E)
Corresponding in scale to the structural design, height and materials used in the existing school building
F)
Second construction phase to proceed in such a way as to minimise disruption (building site facilities and equipment on the western side of the property).
