By doing everything it is possible to do, you end up destroying the world.
(Georg Stefan Troller)
Disputable encroachments on the existing structure of the city centre (such as the demolition of the castle, the construction of a new department store and the extension of Georg-Eckert-Strasse) meant that the historic 'Magniviertel' (St. Magnus' quarter) now had its back turned to the city.
A residential construction concept was devised, with buildings resembling ‘townhouses’ whose gables fronted the street, which was intended to give a significant new look to the 'Magniviertel' when viewed from the castle park and city centre by creating a new, befitting and varied skyline (unity takes many forms) as the coulisse of the castle park. The dissonance introduced by the ‘clumpy’ department store project was to be highlighted like a ‘truncated façade’ by means of the prismatic glass structure which fronted it.
Later stages of construction (inanity takes many forms) such as the Rizzi house, which is engaged in some sort of bizarre and scurrilous architectural rivalry with the historic St. Magnus’ Church, are so alien to the landscape that "to repair the damage to the city, the castle had to be rebuilt with an annex".
