Cynicism is the only form in which base souls approach what is called honesty.
(Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche)
Following a change of heart about the exact area for the planned construction and after abandoning the requirement to link up with the old building via the administrative wing, there was an opportunity to select a different style of urban architecture for the school complex.
The structure is H-shaped and two storeys in height.
The eastern wing is angled so as to accommodate the alignment of Schrammstrasse and to define the streetscape.
The H-shaped layout creates outdoor areas with differing characters: a schoolyard in the south and a quieter 'green yard' in the north.
The two storeys, monopitch roof and arrangement of the eaves in the new building make for a fitting transition of new to old on an appropriate scale, with the former at the same time exhibiting its own individual contemporary architectural language.
The type of the chosen structure also provides a certain spatial distance between the buildings and the car parks.
